Government Affairs Committee

The Government Affairs Committee is responsible for keeping abreast of government policy on health care issues vital to our profession and the patients that we serve. These issues can involve both federal and state legislation and regulations. It is our duty to bring these issues to our members in a timely and expedient manner. We need to contact our State and Federal legislatures in regards to our stand on pending health care issues; get pertinent information to our members regarding these issues; and participate in national and state leadership programs.

Short term goal:

• Participate and support in the passage of State Licensure for our profession

Long term goals:    

• Work with CMS to obtain appropriate reimbursement for pap testing in Minnesota
• Support restoration of additional funding for Title VII to help support grants for Med Tech students and programs
• Lobby against laboratory co-pays
• Update or modernize the current  Laboratory Fee Schedule
• Review and submit comments on the CMS program of Medically Unlikely Edits.
